Itís important to see cats with eye problems as soon as possible. Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the tissue between the globe of the eye and the skin and commonly associated with upper respiratory tract infections. There can be serious consequences if there is also damage to the surface of the eye (corneal ulcer). Corneal ulcers can also be a result of catfight scratches or bumps to the eye. Other eye problems include sudden blindness due to high blood pressure (if we see these cases within 24 hours, we can often restore vision with appropriate treatment) and even eye cancers. Eye problems can reflect problems elsewhere in the body. Sometimes, we will need to refer you and your cat to a specialist veterinary ophthalmologist.
