We do many dentals at Paddington Cat Hospital, usually simple prophylactic procedures, though we sometimes need to extract teeth, as well.  We will always save teeth if we can!  The teeth are first scaled with an ultrasonic scaler to remove all tartar on the teeth and under the gumline, then probed to check for any holes or pockets, and finally polished with fine tooth polish to smooth the surface and delay the tartar reforming.  As you can imagine, cats just won’t allow dental work without an anaesthetic, and it is therefore usually a day procedure.
